A Safe Space for Adults and Children When Life Hurts
I am a 48 year old mother of three very different, wonderful children (23, 20, and 15) they have been the source of my curiosity about life and how life works. It has been an interesting and exciting journey. Our family knows what it means to live with ADHD. Divorce (after 23 years of marriage) has been part of our reality as well. I have had to re-invent myself a few times and this has taught me resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity.
My Master’s thesis was about co-operative co-parenting after divorce and I have worked in schools with children with behaviour problems and made it my life’s mission to provide a safe space for hurting children, parents and teachers. I love to use my narrative counselling and play therapy training, combined with my own experience of life’s ups and downs, to provide a safe place where problems are problems and people are people. I believe that mindfulness and conscious living are key to our emotional and physical health.
A traveller reached a walled city one day, as he got to the gate he heard a voice shouting, “Who are you and what are you here for?” The man was so struck by these words that he employed the man to ask him this question every single day of his life.
My answer to the question: “I am here to create a safe space for you when…
- Your family has experienced trauma.
- You have experienced loss and are working through grief.
- You have experienced the pain of divorce
- You struggle with co-parenting after divorce.
- You struggle with parenting and disciplining your child in a loving way.
- You struggle with the stress and challenges of teaching in the South African context.
