South Peninsula Moms is a group for moms living in the Deep South – Scarborough, Kommetjie, Imhoff, Ocean View, Masiphumelele, Capri, Noordhoek, Fish Hoek, Simons Town, Kalk Bay, up to Muizenberg. Our aim is to build a platform for moms to share their experiences, gain and give advice and generally provide support for our community.

Started as a Facebook group in 2012 by Nicole Downes, the group has been helping the community for 5 years. In late 2014 Elana Bosini and Catherine Bondesio joined Nicole to create a website that supports the group in many more ways. We hope you will find it a useful addition.

Meet the team

Nicole Downes

Nicole was born and raised in Kommetjie, where her parents still live in the same house they built in 1970. She has travelled a lot and her son and daughter were both born abroad, though proudly made in SA.

When her dream of becoming a marine biologist was scuppered by her high school maths marks, Nicole combined her love of kids and sport to become a swimming instructor instead. She loves walking on the beach with her dogs, spending time with family and friends, braaing a lot, going to the pub and listening to live music.

Favourite Food:
Sticky, gooey, cheesy pasta

Best known for:
her PUNCTUALITY (in capitals for a reason) 🙂

What being a mom has taught her:
“It’s more rewarding to do things for other people. It’s not all about you”

Catherine Bondesio

Catherine was born and bred across the bay in Somerset West.  Growing up, Cath wanted to be the Karate Kid, and now drives a “ninja car” (according to her son). She’s convinced her two sweet cherubs, Luke and Neive, get their BIG personalities and sense of humour directly from their dad!

Since becoming a mom, Cath’s sweet tooth has made itself known. Her favourite treats are creme brûlée, lemon meringue and all things chocolate. Her inspirations are her mom and Jamie Oliver, for their back story, recipes and achievements.

Favourite view of Cape Town:
from the blockhouse above Kommetjie.

What most people don’t know:
She was a mean hackie sac player in her “youth“.

What being a mom has taught her:
“Don’t take life too seriously. Mushy carrots on your carpet is not the end of the world!”
