April 24, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Wendy Oldfield & Lionel Bastos

Wendy Oldfield achieved great fame in the 80’s as the lead singer of Sweatband. After much success with songs like Tonight, Shape of Her Body, This Boy & years of touring, she left the group to start her solo career.
Her first solo album Beautiful World set the wheels in motion for a succession of hits, including Real World, Acid Rain, Miracle & Don’t Stop Believing. Oldfield’s vocal performance on the album won her the Octave Award (1992) for Best Female Vocalist & a nomination for Song of the Year (Miracle).

She then branched out into other areas of composition & arrangement, writing soundtracks for commercials, film & TV. She went on to support Simply Red & Wet Wet Wet for their SA tours & shortly after that released her fourth solo album “On a Pale Blue Dot”, which won the FNB Pop Album of the Year Award. She was also nominated for Best Female Vocalist.

She then took some time off to dedicate herself to her family & moved to the Wilderness. Towards the end of 2002, she released her fifth solo album ‘Holy Water’ & was nominated for a SAMA for Best Adult Contemporary.

She moved to the Wilderness in 2003 to focus on family life, whilst still writing music. She won the SAMA award for best children’s music 2009 & 2011. More recently, she completed her 5th solo album SUPERNOVA & is back better than before performing her acoustic show around SA with known Cape Town muso, Lionel Bastos.
