Kommetjie Primary School dads to attempt marathon tennis doubles Guinness World Record
At the end of March 2017, four Kommetjie Primary School dads are going to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest doubles tennis match. They are undertaking this attempt to raise money to build a second tennis/netball court for this small community school.
The 'Longest Marathon Playing Tennis Doubles' world record is held by four men from the Netherlands at 57 hours 32 minutes and 27 seconds. They played 46 matches, consisting of 112 sets and 975 games.
The date for this attempt has been set for Friday, 31 March 2017 at the Kommetjie Primary School tennis court. Starting early and continuing through the weekend, spectators can enjoy a festive atmosphere at the school with heaps of entertainment. Activities include camping on the soccer field, a potjiekos competition, music and games.
Kommetjie Primary School currently has one court, which is used each week by 200 children for tennis and netball games. Money raised by this world-record attempt will go towards building a second court and resurfacing the existing one.
The four men - Johan Radcliffe, Gysbert Pienaar, Dean Ollis and Stefano Lindsay - are not professional tennis players. But they do play a regular Saturday-morning game.
When asked why they chose this tennis record to attempt, Radcliffe replied, "To be honest, some of the other tennis records were mostly for professional players. So attempting this non-stop doubles Guinness World Record was the obvious choice for us".
Show your support for these four dads and this small community school by attending this world-record attempt. Bring along your camping gear and make this weekend at the school a memorable start to the school holiday.
