Meet Kim Keightley

Meet Kim Keightley, single mom from Fish Hoek and this months winner of our SPM Newsletter competition.

Kim

What do you do for a living?

I work for a construction company.  I joined Mark Lunn Projects in 2008.  Don’t ask me what I do… ask me what I DON’T do.
Before this, I worked at FNB for 18 years.

Why do you live in the deep South?

I love living in Fish Hoek.  It’s got a great community and everyone looks out for each other.
We are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the country.

How many children do you have and how would they describe you?

I have 2 children.  My daughter is 10 (going on 25) and my son is 7. I’d like to think that they would describe me as a mixture of fun and firm.  They know that they are my number 1 priority, and I love them to bits.

What is your favourite thing to do with your kids in the deep South?

We like going to the beach for ice-cream and a walk, or a trip to Blue Route Mall to see a movie as a treat.
The kids love going to the Spur.  Which kid doesn’t?

What is the best advice you ever received from your mother?

“Keep your face out of the sun.  You’ll regret it when you’re 30”
Did I listen?  No.
Do I regret it?  Yes.

How does the community benefit from your involvement in it?

I don’t know that the community benefits from me, but I’m not the only single Mom who’s trying their best to raise healthy, happy kids in this day and age.
I love that our community pull together when there’s a need, and that Mom’s support and encourage each other.  Having SP Mom’s as a “sounding board” for all sorts of things also helps.
